Serial entrepreneur and distinguished leader, Evie Kanhai-Gurchuran is CEO & Business Analyst at Gurchuran Investments Inc. where she leads the portfolio for Digital Brand and Content Development Strategy and Digital Public Relations on various technology, public health, and entrepreneurship projects for both private and public sector agencies.

A native and resident of Guyana, Kanhai-Gurchuran is recognized both nationally and internationally for her mentorship of women and youth and for her extensive work in the field of technology for business. That includes her voluntary work with Girls-in-Tech where she holds the position of Managing Director of the Guyana chapter. Girls in Tech is one of the largest, global, non-profits for the support of women in STEM, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

Kanhai-Gurchuran has a keen interest in empowering entrepreneurs through e-commerce and in leveraging technology for growth and global market access. An early venture for her was in creating affordable and efficient websites to accelerate business opportunities for youth business. In response to the market demand, she established Sites Builders – a web, ecommerce, and mobile design firm. Later in 2018 she leveraged her reach with Sites Builders to establish Girls+Technology. The initiative was a collaboration with the renowned visual analytics firm Chaski Global, the International Development Bank and the US State Department.

Through the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative Program, Kanhai-Gurchuran has been able to collect data and produce findings on the opportunity gaps for women in ICT and Technology, especially in education and employment. This has been an instrumental factor in her success. As a multi-award winning social and innovation conscious woman, she uses her platform to mentor and encourage other young women in career goals and growth through various programs, many of which she has created.

In 2018 Kanhai-Gurchuran was appointed Presidential Precinct Fellow and recognized by Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Alumna. In 2019 she received the 40UNDER40 Brand YOUth Diaspora Award – a movement said to be “rooted in excellence, unity, community and self-empowerment”. In that same year Kanhai-Gurchuran was awarded the Caribbean Tech Entrepreneur Fellowship and was recognised by the Mentor Capital Network Alum 2019. Since then, she has also been the recipient of Guyana’s National Youth Award for Entrepreneurship and more recently, was named among the Top 50 Women in Tech in 2021 by SiliconeCaribe – multiple award-winning and Dow Jones syndicated technology media and events company.

The young mother of three girls, runs her businesses alongside husband Miguel Gurchuran, himself a visionary and advocate of technology for business transformation. Together the couple run the popular Java Coffee Bar in Guyana’s capital city – a favourite networking spot for Georgetown’s millennials. Kanhai-Gurcharan is also owner of Co-Grow, a co-working and business development centre which provides affordable workspace for start-ups as well as for new entry and transient professionals.

In addition to her voluntary work with Girls-in-Tech, Kanhai-Gurchuran is the Current Past Vice Chairman of the Small Business Board, Small Business Bureau of Guyana’s Ministry of Business. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Guyana Chamber Commerce and Industry’s Entrepreneurship Committee and is Co-Founder of the non-profit Association of Women Entrepreneurs.
