The multifaceted H.R.H Princess Zamaswazi Dlamini Mandela ‘Swati’ is the granddaughter of the late Nelson and Winnie Mandela. She is the daughter of Zenani Mandela, Ambassador to South Korea. Swati co-authored the autobiography on her grandmothers life 491 Days in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and published by McMillan Publishing Company. She has also participated in the publishing of The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela, as well as co-produced with Mandy Jacobson a documentary on the life of Winnie Mandela.
This she achieved working in tandem with the Ichikowitz Family Foundation’s African Oral History Archive. Beyond her myriad of interests and contributions to the South African society and the globe, Swati is passionate about being the solution we wish to see’ on all aspects of human existence and society building. This is the driving force behind her contributions in the arts and humanities; expanding into education, economic and social development, welfare, as well as business development. Being a change maker and having the ability to positively impact people’s lives through her work, advocacy and fund-raising efforts, is her raison d’être – or reason for being.
A luminary with a knack for the creative Swati has served as a spokesperson for 21 Icons – a visual celebration of South Africa’s most iconic people capturing human achievement through photography, film and narrative.
May the contribution of our stories serve as a reminder
of the rich legacy my grandmother
and many others have left Africans and global activists who face diverse struggles in our current day.
