I am a proud native of the beautiful country of Guyana. At the age of seven, I migrated to the United States where I spent a majority of my life. When I first started my undergraduate degree I was unsure what major I wanted to go into until I saw the Human Services pamphlet. A college advisor explained the major in detail and I was intrigued and fell in love with the idea of being able to help families.
I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and proceeded to work as a social worker, working with children and families, where the goal is to help children in the foster care system obtain permanency.
After a few years of working in the field, I obtained my MSW(Masters of Social Work) in May 2012. I am still working in child and family welfare, however, it’s within the division of prevention. Prevention’s focus is to help provide families with the services needed in order for the children to remain with their families and avoid foster care. I enjoy my career and I am blessed to be able to help others in need. I am a strong believer that “It takes a village”. I will continue to work with that belief and do my part to help others.
