Catherine Hughes is a Media Specialists with extensive knowledge of the Caribbean media and advertising environment. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and has spent several years working in television in Texas with the Local Edition of CNN’s Headline News, as a freelance BBC radio reporter in Liverpool, England, and as a news reporter in Jamaica and Guyana.Cathy has run several successful family businesses including Ariantze Hotel, Sidewalk Café and Jazz Club and her own television production facility and advertising agency Videomega Productions.

Cathy Hughes has always been a vibrant and outspoken speaker on social, economic and political issues in Guyana. She was a founding member of the NGO’s Guyana Is First and Women Against Violence Everywhere (WAVE), and is currently Vice Chair of the Alliance For Change (AFC).

In 2015 Cathy served as Minister of Tourism and in 2016 was appointed Guyana’s first Minister of Public Telecommunications, a position held by few women in the ICT field internationally. She is a Member of Parliament since 2011 and is excited about moving Guyana and its women forward.
