Urica Primus started philanthropic work at sixteen years old. Ms. Primus was elected President of the Guyana Women Miners Organisation at the age of 24; after serving the organization as an Executive Committee member since the inception of the organisation.
Ms. Primus has been striving for gender equality in the mining sector, as well as, increased opportunity for women in mining. At age 25 Ms. Primus joined the BoDs of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and was elected Vice Chairman. She has since served as Vice Chairman on the BoDs twice within the last three years and remains a member of the board to date. During her tenure Ms. Primus has written five approved policies for the Commission to aid in the development of the industry.
Ms. Primus is a member of the Steering Committees for two global due diligence in mining standards; CRAFT Code and Fairmined. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Responsible Mining. She currently serves as both the Director and a member of the Board of Directors of the Together in Peace, Guyana’s first safe home for victims of Trafficking in Persons.
In 2019 Ms. Primus Co-Founded Stabroek Solutions. Stabroek is a relocation, real estate and administrative company. In 2021 Ms. Primus began serving as the Delve Knowledge Exchange Coordinator for the Caribbean. Ms. Primus is a United Nations Alliance of Civilization alumnus, a member of the How Women Lead global network and an international advisor for the Emmanuel Ivorgba Foundation.
At age 29 Ms. Primus was bestowed the Order of Service of Guyana, Medal of Service.
