Reneé Chester is a Georgetown Guyana based makeup artist with over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry. I am a professional with a highly driven passion for beauty and excellence.
The success of my business BROMELIAD.rnc (Professional Makeup Studio, Beauty & Cosmetics Store) can be attributed to my dedication, innovation and resilience.
Under my brand I also teach Professional Makeup Application under the categories of Beginners Professional Makeup, Advanced and the Master Class. Over the years I’ve earned the recognition for my outstanding bridal makeup artistry but my skills aren’t limited to this, as I have done work for film, television and pageantry in and out of Guyana just to list a few. My work has been seen in magazines, newspapers, fashion shows, blogs, photoshoots, award ceremonies and countless celebrated special events.
My name and brand is synonymous with the Black Opal Cosmetics line of products as I am the advocate for the brand and is the official distributor of the products in my homeland. I’ve made appearances on countless events over the years promoting my artistry to fellow Guyanese and representing entrepreneurs as a woman in business. In 2018 I was featured as part of the “Guyanese Youth in Review” and in January 2019 I was awarded by CSC the award for Outstanding Makeup Artist in The Caribbean. Presently I continue to grow my brand with an active presence on social media platforms with over 26K organic followers.
How did you arrive at the idea for your business?
First of all, 10 years ago the makeup market was wide open for an idea to start a makeup company and make it a success. I didn’t realize it at first, since becoming a Makeup artist wasn’t the plan at all but once I got my skills acquired via classes abroad and started to put my new-found talent into practice, based on the demand for my services I realized that once approached properly this could be the next big thing and I wasn’t wrong. I’d like to think all my ideas, projects, dedication and methods over the years has definitely changed the game in Guyana.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
A promise made to my deceased dad. That no matter what, I will make something positive and outstanding of myself so he could remain proud of me. So, when I decided to be a woman in business, I used that promise as my driving force. It keeps me going every day.
What is your greatest challenge being an entrepreneur?
Balancing work and personal life are hands down my greatest challenge. I’m guilty of getting carried away with projects and daily tasks. Way too often this drive and desire to grow in business tends to encroach on my personal life. I’m not complaining about it, but I’m very much aware.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
I’ve had quite a few moments like that. However, receiving positive feedback from HE First Lady Mrs. Sandra Granger after being her Personal MUA on several occasions. Then receiving the award title of Outstanding Makeup Artist in the Caribbean by the Caribbean Style & Culture. Another moment was becoming the Authorized Distributor for BLK/OPL cosmetics in Guyana.
What piece of advice would you give to other young people who want to become entrepreneurs?
While there’s so much pointers to give, I’ll share what I prove to be the most effective once applied. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT AND STAY FOCUS ON THAT. Bear in mind that the journey wasn’t even designed to be “easy-breezy” so every up & down is a challenge you CAN face. Just stay the course. With focus and humility and of course a praying heart and mind, you will conquer.
How do you define success?
Its simply the sum of small efforts applied day in and day out. Sticking to a mindset of passion and consistency will get you there.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
Over the years I’ve gathered my inspiration from so many different people, and experiences and I’m grateful for all lessons learned. But To be direct I must say Arlene Villarule-Felix. An amazing makeup artist and entrepreneur. I know her personally and everything about her exudes POWER. Her drive and passion for makeup artistry is extraordinary. She’s a creative genius and an inspiration to so many of us I’m sure.
