Owona is a passionate public engagement professional with expertise in stakeholder engagement, civic education and youth transformation and development.
Owona holds a lean black belt six sigma certification from the Aveta Business Institute (2021), a LLB from the University of Pretoria (2017), a Bachelor of Social Sciences Honours degree in Politics and International Relations from Rhodes University (2014), as well as a Bachelor of Social Sciences Undergraduate degree from Rhodes University (2013).
Professionally, she is currently a Public Education and Outreach Officer for the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, where she is responsible for rolling out effective civic education to citizens of the Western Cape in South Africa thus equipping citizens with the requisite knowledge with which to engage the legislative sector.
Additionally, Owona is the head of development initiatives for Ubumbo, a sports and development organisation, where she established and leads a dual-language reading and writing programme with students from an after-care rugby programme kwaLanga, in Cape Town.
Prior to this Owona served as a Sub Saharan Africa Analyst with an extractives and financial services sector focus for a global intelligence and cyber security consultancy.
Through her career Owona has been a passionate advocate for tangible transformation and development in the lives of young people through the various educational initiatives she champions and is part of.
