My Name is Renata Persaud , I co-own and run the daily operations of Kings Hotel & Residences, Bistro Cafe & Bar and King’s Jewelry World together with my husband and his family. I have been in the business for 21 years. I’m a past student of St. Joseph’s High School, a Graduate Gemologist trained by the Gemological Institute of America and recently started studying interior designing with New York Institute of Art & Design.
I have many different duties but have been concentrating on human resource ,project management and the designing and expansion sector of the businesses. I love to travel and my interaction with people within the similar industries have allowed me to expand my vision which reflects in our businesses today. I enjoy what I do and look forward to work on our new upcoming projects.
How did you arrive at the idea for your business?
I believe that Guyana is only now being discovered as the gem of South America and by all the recent interest from the outside world , I felt that tourism is about to boom here and a nice boutique hotel with a different kind of cafe and bar with a cool vibe for all ages is what was needed.
What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
It was kind of built into to me as a child being surrounded by a family of go getters and motivators. I was never a sit down at home type of girl. I always wanted to start some sort of business project ,always had ideas.
What is your greatest challenge being an entrepreneur?
The Biggest challenge I would say is getting people to think out of the box and to see my vision and also having to develop lot of patience in getting things done.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
The feed back from the general public(local & International) of how satisfying the service & ambiance is ,makes me smile from ear to ear .
What piece of advice would you give to other young people who want to become entrepreneurs?
To don’t be discouraged by the views of society that cannot understand what’s your vision. Be persistent and surround yourself with the right motivational people.
How do you define success?
Success is not defined by money in my opinion but achieving something which out shined the basic goal that was set from the start .
